Hi Everyone,
The boys have, overall, had a good week. Both have now graduated from the CPAP and are now only getting assistance breathing from a nasal canula. Both are also now at full feedings and are more steadily putting on weight. Ethan is now a little over 2lb 6oz and Caleb is now a little over 2lb 4oz. If they can continue getting stronger with breathing, they can hopefully soon try out feeding directly from a bottle instead of through a feeding tube. Being able to feed from a bottle is one of the major things they need to be able to do before they can come home, so we are cheering them on to continue to get stronger so they can try it out.
Caleb has had a few more EEG's recently and they have not shown seizure activity, but have still shown a "spike" in one part of his brain, which is something that can be a precurser to seizures. He is doing much better than just a couple weeks ago, but is still on some medication (though not as much) to make sure he doesn't have seizures. At this point, they are still saying that it is most likely due to his prematurity and that he will hopefully grow out of it. He is hopefully going to have an MRI done in the next week or so for them to get a better look at his brain activity and get some more definitive answers. If he can continue to make progress as he gets bigger, they have said that the medication he is currently on can be taken from home.
It has been a good week with a lot of positive news and we are praying that they continue like this until we can get them home!
