Some Updates

Hi Everybody,

It's been a couple days since we have given updates on the boys. We have been continuing to see them every evening and are calling each morning to see how they are doing. On Friday, Ethan was taken of the ventilator for 12 hours and the nurses say he did pretty well while he was off. He started getting tired, so they put him back on and both boys will probably remain on ventilators now until at least the end of the weekend.

Ethan has had a good couple of days. He did well with the medication they gave him to treat his heart murmer and it is now small enough that they are just monitoring it for now and will not start another round of treatments unless it opens back up or does not go away completely on it's own in the upcoming days/weeks. Now that he is off the medication, they have increased his food intake from 1 mL every four hours to 4 ml every four hours. So far, he has reacted well to the increase.

Caleb is also doing well. His heart murmer is also small enough that they are just monitoring it for the time being and his food intake has gone from 1 mL every four hours to 6 mL every four hours. He has also reacted well to the increase. They are monitoring his blood gases because one of his levels has been a little off. They are giving him small doses of medication to correct that level and tell us they are not overly concerned about it at this point. Other than that, all is well with Caleb.

All in all, both boys have had a good couple of days. Everything they are experiencing is normal for preemies of their age. Getting more food should be able to help them grow faster as they are getting more calories with each feeding. They will be weighed again tonight and we are anxiously awaiting the results to see if Ethan continued to gain weight and if Caleb has now started gaining weight as well. Jamie is getting really good at taking temperatures and changing diapers! She was able to do this for them several times over the past couple days and they seem to always have a surprise for Mommy when she does.

Please keep praying for their growth and strength and for more uneventful days and nights.

Thank You All,
The Goeske's

  1. Dave and Jamie,

Thank you so much for the updates about your wonderful family. The boys are beautiful. I am not sure if we ever mentioned that we had a daughter that passed away at birth many years ago. She continues to have a special place in our hearts. We are sure that your son Tyler will also hold a very special place within you. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. We will keep praying for Ethan and Caleb to continue growing stronger each day.
    Love, Doug, Laura and Family
